Hi, my name is Josh Johannessen. I’m a 26-year-old from New Jersey. Throughout my life I have always had a passion for physical fitness and exercise. Growing up I played baseball and basketball. I ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track in high school and now I play co-ed volleyball and participate in slow pitch softball leagues. I have my Bachelor’s degree to be a Health and Physical Education teacher and I hope to become a personal trainer in the near future.
The idea for this trip came from last summer when I rode my bicycle across the United States. I rode from New Jersey to California and up the West Coast to Seattle to raise money for my good friend, Robin Reed, as her medical bills piled up from battling breast cancer. This 5,257 mile journey was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It showed me how supportive the people in the community are when a person is in need. It also showed me how awesome and amazing the people were that I met across the country. They helped me out in anyway possible either by donating, giving me a place to stay, giving me something to eat, or simply filling up my water bottle.
I am ecstatic to have Scott and Jose riding alongside me for this trip. These guys do not know what they are in for at all. We will face many different challenges, whether it is weather-related or pedaling up to the top of a mountain. But the joy we will get from this journey is going to be like no other. Helping people along the way while raising money for amazing causes will power and motivate us to get through any obstacle we come across. This will be the trip of a lifetime and we will show everyone that 'Anyone Can be a Superhero'.
